How Google Autocomplete Works

Google is one of the most trusted platforms across the globe, be it for personal or professional reasons. When it comes to your business, understanding some key features becomes vital. One of these features is Google Autocomplete. If we go by Google’s own words, Google Autocomplete is designed to make it faster to complete searches that you’re beginning to type.

This feature was first introduced back in 2004. So one thing is for sure, it has been in existence for a long time. To understand this feature better, you will be required to hire the services of an SEO expert in Sydney.

Understandably, Google cannot read minds. In the case of Google Autocomplete, it is an automatic feature available in front of you. It will make calculated predictions by looking at searches made by real people. We will discuss various key factors about this feature:

Popularity Of Search Queries

Google Autocomplete certainly works around the popularity of search queries. In case a particular query isn’t searched by many people, it won’t appear through Autocomplete. The thing about popularity is that it doesn’t stay the same for a long period. The trend that’s being followed today might fade away completely tomorrow. While some searches are far more common than others, some less popular searches might be shown above more common ones if Google deems them more relevant. So the relevance of the content is going to matter too, especially in the long run.

Previous Search Queries

You might have seen how Google makes your previous search history available to you whenever you search for something on the platform. For example, if you have searched for a shopping item before, the search query will appear once again if you write down a particular word that you searched for previously. In case you don’t find the previous search queries relevant, you can delete them too. In this way, you can start from scratch and Google Autocomplete won’t interfere with your motives either.

Are Some Predictions Removed?

Another aspect to understand about Google Autocomplete is that it makes “predictions” rather than “suggestions.” The company has specifically focused on the former, owing to various controversies that arose in the past. These are two different things as suggestions can come out of a personal motive, while predictions can be free from bias. The platform also removes certain kinds of predictions. In case they are considered spam or closely related to privacy, they will be deleted from predictions provided by Google Autocomplete.

Reporting Inappropriate Google Autocomplete Predictions

In case you feel that Google Autocomplete is providing predictions that are inappropriate in any way, you have the chance to report it as well. In case you’re using the Google app through Android, you can long-press the prediction to get a reporting option. In case you’re using it on iOS, you can swipe to the left to get the reporting option. Once you have reported, Google will look into the matter and see if the prediction is inappropriate or not.
